Introducing the Decision Board!
Introducing the Decision Board!
This week we're starting to open up the Decision Boardto a few folks. It's the first, very small step, but we're excited to start learning more about how teams can make better decisions and communicated them for effectively.
What does the Decision Board help teams with?
- Where do you make group decisions today? Countless meetings? Slack?
- How does your team make difficult decisions?
- How do you make sure others make decisions in line with your team's strategy and principles?
- How do you know who has the authority to make a decision?
- How do you influence others in the decision making process?
- How do you know what decisions need to be made by your team now vs later?
- How do other teams and leaders in the organization know what decisions you've made and why? How do you know about their decisions as well?
- How does someone 'get up to speed' and not repeat mistakes by understanding why decisions were made in the past?
We believe these are questions that we should be able to answer, yet we've found that many of these processes are implicit and get lost in threads and docs.
We want to change that. The Decision Board creates an explicit home for decision making - a source of truth for how decisions are made and why.
Decision making is a people problem, not a data problem
The Decision Board zeros in on three crucial areas to help you and your team excel:
- Increasing the effectiveness of leadership teams - we want you to make the most of your time, talent, and resources by focusing on what truly matters.
- Clarifying ownership and accountability - no more finger-pointing or wishing someone else would take charge; the Decision Board helps everyone know their roles and priorities.
- Improving communication with visibility into decision making - no more second-guessing or wondering how an important decision was reached; the Decision Board promotes clear communication and a strategic mindset.
To make it all happen, we not only tap into research-backed models and techniques for effective dialog, but also provide an experience that helps bring together the right people and information at the right time. This includes creating clear ownership and accountability across decision making contexts like products, services, business functions, etc...
Less meetings, more decisions
The Decision Board is purpose-built for async dialog, ensuring that all discussions, debates, and ideas around decisions are organized in one accessible place. We like to think of it as the place you go to get clarity, buy-in, and decisions made - not just talked about. Dotwork helps prioritize decisions and give visibility to what's important now vs what can be addressed later.
But that's not all—we've curated an arsenal of tools for group decision making:
- Effectively prioritize with the Eisenhower Matrix
- Clarify ownership & accountability with models like RAPID, DACI, and OVIS
- Combat the cognitive biases that plague collaboration with tools like nominal groups and pre-mortems
- Escalate and delegate decisions
- Create dedicated spaces to clarify decision rights
Built on research-backed models and techniques
We've designed the Decision Board around the principles of The Uncertainty Project, a curated library of tools and techniques focused on strategic decision making. Together, we aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
